Geocache Description:

This cache is designed primarily for bicyclists. It is a multi-cache with one interim find required before arriving at the goody stash. Total round trip distance is about 10 miles on a paved class 1 bike trail (some hills).

There is a large "B" painted on a hillside above Henderson. Beneath it runs a paved bike trail that is one section of a future 31-mile biking/jogging/equestrian loop circumnavigating the River Mountains. The path runs through mostly empty desert along the base of the mountains and is virtually unknown, even to local area cyclists.

The north end of the trail crosses under Lake Mead Drive near the entrance to the Lake Las Vegas resort. A large dirt parking area can be found at N36° 04.778'; W114° 56.018'. Entering from this end, the trail is totally paved and suitable for street bikes.

Near the south end of the trail, the pavement passes the water treatment facility located in the desert east of Boulder Highway between Henderson and Railroad Pass. There is a large paved parking area at the south entrance to the trail. You'll find it near the intersection of Equestrian Drive and Magic Way (N36° 00.822'; W114° 56.350').

As noted, this multi-cache is designed primarily for bicyclists. Although the coordinates of the first leg are closer to the south end of the trail, the interim legs will pretty much take you from one end to the other. A quick look at the lay of the land will tell you that it is mostly uphill coming from the north; which means it's all downhill coming from the south. Patty recommends doing the hard part at the beginning so you can coast home!

The interim repositories are small Altoid tins that contain nothing but directions to the next leg. The final stash is a medium sized ammo can that is (at least initially) stocked with some pretty nice stuff. Be sure to re-cover all caches completely. They'll still be easy to find, given the hints and coordinates, but we need to keep them from being noticed by utility workers and passers-by.

Update 4/13/2011: The second interim stash has been lost. I eliminated it so that the coordinates provided in the first one send you directly to the final one.
