This is the first in a series which focuses on the current locations of some of the forgotten Drive-Ins around the Niagara Region.
The Welland Drive-In, also known as, the Dain City Drive-In is located in Dain City, south of the City ofr Welland.
Dain City received it's name due to the Dain Manufacturing Company, which was taken over by John Deere in 1911. Dain City was actually a housing complex for Dain employees built in 1909.
W. B. Freedman owned the drive-in and it opened in 1954.
Aound 1975, Canadian Theatres took over its operation and then by 1980, Canadian Odeon took over just before it closed. The theatre was demolished in 1981.
You can see the distinct wedge shaped scarring in the land on old Google Maps of the area. And I even remember seeing them in the ground just about 20 years ago, but now the area has been completely changed with the new subdivision of Cottonwood Crescent on the south side of Forkes Road. This now occupies the space of the old Drive-In.
The cache is located outside of this subdivision as there are not many spots within it to hide a cache.
Have fun and Happy caching!
