Localiza-se numa área de faixa de gestão de combustíveis em que o propósito é não ter vegetação. Nesse sentido, aproveita-se a janela de prescrição do tempo fora do verão para se fazerem ações de fogo controlado pelos bombeiros e outros profissionais da proteção civil, onde se incluem os sapadores florestais destes baldios. Estas estão dependentes das condições meteorológicas como a temperatura, vento e humidade.
As formações aqui lecionadas geralmente são orientadas pelas entidades locais formadoras de bombeiros e outros agentes, enquanto parceiros destes baldios, proporcionando-se ganhos mútuos com a gestão florestal e a instrução de profissionais.
