Theatres can be a very fun place to be. I've spent many hours inside theatres, and it could be the lack of sunlight, or the fumes from all of the hairspray & smoke machines, but whatever it is, it can bring out some particularly entertaining moments, and this puzzle plays on one of those such moments.
Before each show in a given season of most theatre shows, the cast carry out a microphone check, and what's important during this mic check is that each cast member keeps on talking until the audio engineer is happy with how their microphone sounds. As this happens before every show, it's important to keep things interesting, otherwise the cast will end up saying the same things every time, which is just boring for everyone. On one show I crewed, one night was "make the audio engineer fall in love with you," and the next was "break up with the audio engineer" - what a rollercoaster of emotions for them.
During a recent season of Young Frankenstein at Auckland Music Theatre, we posed the cast the challenge of singing inverted musical theatre songs. For example, the song For Good in Wicked would become For Bad, and so on. This produced some highly entertaining results, and I hope that the below is just as amusing to you as it was for us.
Below are a list of ten inverted musical theatre song titles, A through J. You will find the cache at S36° AB.CDE E174° FG.HIJ. In some instances, the entire meaning of the song is inverted, and in others, each word is individually inverted.
As I really just want you to have fun with the puzzle and not be scratching your head over the steps required, here's what you need to do:
- Convert each of the inverted song titles into their original name
- Find the name of the musical that each of song is a part of
- Take the relevant letter(s) of that musical's name (with one exception, which will become clear), and convert that to its location in the alphabet
- Take a bow, and find the cache!
