Geocache Description:

In honour of the WW1 soldiers named on the Keyworth Memorial on Nottingham Road - the 3 new housing estates Keyworth Rise, Nicker Hill and Spinners Croft all take their street names from the soldiers who gave thier lives in World War One.  These caches are placed in honour of their memories - the fallen soldiers are all local to Keyworth in some way.  Many of these families were long established in the small community of Keyworth (787 total population made up of 372 males and 415 female - as in 1911 census summary books).

There are 4 men named Disney listed on the WW1 memorial.  These are 3 Brothers and 1 Cousin.  Thomas & Mary Disney were the parents of William Disney b.1819 and Thomas Disney b.1831.  William & Thomas both had sons called Thomas Disney and both were born in 1852.  William's son Thomas married Emma Simpson and were the parents of Arnold, Albert & Claude.  Thomas's son Thomas married Agnes Attewell  and were the parents of Arthur Disney.

Arthur William Peet Disney -  Arthur was born in Keyworth in 1886 to Thomas & Agnes Disney (nee Attewell) who were both born in Keyworth. They were married in 1885. His siblings were Minnie, Percy, Constance and Oswald.  His Fathers parents were Thomas & Jane Disney (nee Peet).   His Mothers parents were Wiliiam & Eliza Attewell (nee Murden).

Arthur appears on the census for Keyworth in 1891 at  Selby Lane (aged 4), 1901 Main Street (aged 14) and by 1911 he was married (in 1907) and lived on Main Street aged 24 with wife Henerietta  (nee Hodgett) (aged 30) and son Ronald aged 3. They went on to have 2 more children - Barbara 1911 and Marjorie 1913.  Henerietta  died aged 84  in 1965 still living in  Keyworth on Main Street.  His brother Percy served in WW1 and survived.

In 1921 his father Thomas (widower) is still living at Barlow Cottage with Constance (single)  and Minnie and her family. Thomas died in 1934, Agnes had died 1907.

Arthur and his brothers Percy and Oswald were members of the football team of 1910 which comprised only Disney men (see photo). Arthur was a member of the Disney football team in 1910 that famously defeated the Keyworth Village team. He played for the Village team from 1904 to 1912.

Arthur William Peet Disney Private 33774 enlisted at West Bridgford Nottingham, whilst residing at Keyworth.

He was killed in action on 7th June 1917 aged 31 whilst serving with the 8th battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.  Medals awarded - The 1915 star, The Victory Medal and The British war medal.

Disney Grove is named in his (and his cousins Albert, Arnold and Claude's) honour at the new housing estate at Keyworth Rise off Bunny Lane.

The Cache  - This is a straight forward cache placed on Selby Lane  where the family were in 1891 before they moved to Main Street. Please replace as found.
