Look out for a natural cache, sneaky camouflage. You may need tweezers for this micro cache. Watch out for the busy road.
The horsepool was used as a watering place, by horses, cattle etc., and elephants from a visiting circus. Tanks were driven through while on manoeuvres.
The Horsepool (not duckpond), occupies the corner of Stow Road and Parkers Lane. In the 1824 Inclosure Award the eastern portion of 25 perches was declared to be a public watering place. The western portion of 29 perches was initially allotted to Joseph Valentine Grimstead, the inheritor of the Creswick estate, as part of his compensation for the loss of 20 cow commons. He exchanged it with Sir Charles Cockerell of Sezincote, who in turn exchanged it with Oxford University. This division of ownership was to be a bone of contention more than 100 years later.
In the 1967 the parish council agreed to beautify the pool, creating an artificial bank and a tree screen at the back of the pool. This came about following the death of a duck on the main road. The stone wall was built in 1987.
