Another in a series of caches to highlight the many towns, villages, hamlets, localities and crossroads around Victoria. Based on a series of caches in South Australia, initiated by local SA cacher adelaideram. adelaideram was contacted and is happy with the series spreading its wings into Victoria.
Bamawm
Now an irrigation area, Bamawm was a dry farming area when first settled, consisting of plains with numerous small seasonal watercourses. It is thought that the name was derived from an Aboriginal word meaning creek, the full name for the district was Pannoo Bamawm, meaning ‘little creek’.
The district falls within the Campaspe Shire LGA, located 26 km SW of Echuca. According to the 2011 census, Bamawm and its surrounding areas had a population of 527. The locality shares a cricket and football club with Lockington. There is a Uniting Church and a war memorial.
