Cache In, Trash and Invasives Out Cache In Trash Out® Event

This is an event to both find as many geocaches in the Lapham Peak unit and surrounding area within a 3 hour time frame as possible, and volunteer at Lapham Peak State Forest by removing invasive species (buckthorn and garlic mustard) and trash. A representative from the DNR will be available to assist with the invasive species removal. All ages and families are welcome and encouraged to participate!

The Details:

• Date: Sunday, June 22^nd
• Time: 1 pm to 4 pm
• Location: Kettle Moriane State Forest Lapham Peak Unit, Mike Fort Open Air Shelter
• RSVP: You must RSVP to this event by June 14th, 2025. RSVP by replying to this event or leaving a comment with the information below. If you do not RSVP, you may still participate, but may not be eligible to compete for the prizes. RSVP with the following information:

The Rules:

• Single adventurers or teams of up to 5 people.
• Participants can gain points for each geocache successfully found during the event. There are a lot of geocaches in the general vicinity, but your team will only get points for those geocaches found during the day and time of this event.
  • Point breakdown is as follows:
    • Each Traditional Geocache found = 1 point
    • Each Multi-cache found = 2 points
    • Each Puzzle cache found = 2 points
    • Each AdventureLab completed = 3 points
• • Invasive Species:
    • Remove as much invasive buckthorn and/or garlic mustard from the park as you can in the allotted time.
    • Bring your own gardening sheers, gardening gloves, and/or trowel to facilitate removal.
    • Feel free to bring plastic grocery bags to collect the invasive plants. A limited number of plastic grocery bags will be provided at check in.
    • Three points will be earned for each plastic grocery bag packed full of garlic mustard or buckthorn.
      • Partially filled bags will not be assigned points.
      • Bags must be filled with invasive species extracted from the park. Bags filled from other locations or times will not be accepted for points.
    • Designated locations will be identified for removal of invasive species.
  • Trash Removal:
    • Hike the trails at the park while hunting for geocaches and collect as much trash as you can!
    • Feel free to bring plastic grocery bags to collect the trash. A limited number of plastic grocery bags will be provided at check in.
    • Three points will be earned for each plastic grocery bag full of trash.
      • Partially filled bags will not be assigned points.
      • Bags must be filled with trash extracted from the park. Bags filled from other locations or times will not be accepted for points.
      • Trash is defined as man-made material left behind by other visitors to the park and not already in a trash collection receptacle, such as bottles, cans, plastic bags, and food wrappers.

Awards:

Awards will be provided for the team with the highest point total.
