Two small streams, namely the West Kyd Brook and the Kyd Brook flow through the woods and are particularly important in sustaining the nature conservation value of the woodland.
Both streams rise a few miles away in the Locksbottom area. The West Kyd Brook is the smaller of the two and enters the woods via Farnborough Park and flows past the remains of a former smallpox hospital, whereas the Kyd Brook enters the woods after flowing under Crofton Road next to the Scout Hut and runs along the footpath on the eastern edge of the woodland. The streams eventually join up beneath Shepperton Road and are known as the Kyd Brook. Further on the stream is known as the river Quaggy, which itself is a tributary of the river Ravensbourne which flows into the river Thames at Deptford.

The streams provide an opportunity for a variety of water loving flora and fauna that may be found in the woodland. The banks of both are especially rich in herb species, such as hart's tongue fern and marsh marigold, and the streams support a variety of insects and other creatures. “Pond skaters” may be seen skating across the water and stickle backs lurk in the deeper sections of the streams.
