Kirchdorfer Kapellencache – Sternpark-Kapelle Traditional Cache

In Kirchdorf an der Krems gibt es nicht nur die den Ortsnamen prägende Kirche, sondern auch mehrere Kapellen. Die jüngste davon liegt am Dr. Wayand-Ring im Kirchdorfer Sternpark. Der Nahe rührt her von den charakteristischen Bundesheer-Sternbauten die heutzutage eine neue Nutzung als Wohnhäusern bieten.

Zur Geschichte der ehemaligen Kremstal-Kaserne

• 1978 Beschluss der „Wehrmilliarde“ – u.a. sollten Rekruten und Milizsoldaten in der Nähe ihrer Wohnorte ihre militärische Heimat haben

Stadtteil Sternpark und Kapelle

Als klar wurde, dass die Kremstal-Kaserne in Kirchdorf aufgelassen wird, begannen jahrelange politische und gesellschaftliche Diskussionen über die Weiternutzung des Areals. Von Schulungszentrum über Schule bis zu Freizeitareal reichten die Ideen. Letztendlich machte das Konzept eines neuen „Stadtteils“ das Renne. So übernahm eine Käufergemeinschaft 2012 das Areal, um den „Sternpark“ zu realisieren. Dabei wurden die kreuzförmigen Mannschaftsunterkünfte in Wohnungen umgewandelt und das weitere Gebiet für Ein- und Mehrfamilienhäuser erschlossen sowie Geschäftsflächen geschaffen.

2019 errichtete der Initiator des „Sternparks“ Gerhard Graßegger gemeinsam mit seiner Frau Johanna die Sternpark Kapelle. Die Kapelle wurde am Samstag, 2. Oktober 2019 Kapelle feierlich eingeweiht. Im Zentrum der Kapelle steht eine Auferstehungsgruppe aus Zirbenholz gefertigt vom Atelier im Lindgraben in Molln (Künstler: Daniela Wögerer und Reinhard Kofler). Dabei ist Christus nicht ans Kreuz genagelt, sondern er schwebt umgeben von Engelsfiguren vor dem Strahlenkreuz. Auf der linke Seite steht eine geschnitzte Madonna mit Jesuskind.

Links neben der Kapelle steht eine Tafel mit den Wappen der ehemals hier stationierten Einheiten gewidmet vom Verein „Freunde der Garnison“.

Kirchdorf an der Krems is home not only to the church that gives the town its name, but also to several chapels. The most recent of these is located on Dr Wayand-Ring in Kirchdorf's Sternpark. The name comes from the characteristic star-shaped buildings of the Austrian army, which are now being used as residential buildings.

Sternpark district and chapel

When it became clear that the Kremstal barracks in Kirchdorf would be abandoned, years of political and social discussions began about the further use of the site. The ideas ranged from a training centre to a school to a leisure area. In the end, the concept of a new ‘urban district’ won the race. In 2012, a group of buyers took over the site to realise the ‘Sternpark’. The cross-shaped crew accommodation was converted into flats and the rest of the area was developed for detached houses and apartment blocks and commercial space was created.

In 2019, the initiator of the ‘Sternpark’ Gerhard Graßegger and his wife Johanna built the Sternpark Chapel. The chapel was officially opened on Saturday, 2 October 2019. At the centre of the chapel is a resurrection group made of stone pine by Atelier im Lindgraben in Molln (artists: Daniela Wögerer and Reinhard Kofler). Christ is not nailed to the cross, but hovers surrounded by angelic figures in front of the radiant cross. On the left-hand side is a carved Madonna with baby Jesus.

To the left of the chapel is a plaque with the coats of arms of the units formerly stationed here, dedicated by the ‘Friends of the Garrison’ association.
