As Cincinnati was expanding, Walnut Hills was annexed in 1869. That meant that the city was now responsible for its fire protection. Fire Co. 16 was founded in 1870, and the same year this building was constructed.
After more than a century in operation, ironically it was damaged by fire in 1977 and subsequently closed. The building was reconstructed and restored in 2010s and thus was preserved and a brilliant piece of the city's history. It currently houses an aptly named pizza restaurant.
