Geocache Description:

Take a stroll - or a bike ride - along Te Aka Ōtākou; this multi covers the section between Ravenbourne and Saint Leonards. You can do it in either direction because the final cache is somewhere between these two end points, and there is parking at either end. (The waypoints are numbered from the southern end.)

The walkway/cycleway between Dunedin and Port Chalmers took almost twenty years to complete.

Otago Regional Council oversaw the building of the first, southernmost, section between Magnet Street and Ravensbourne, a multi-agency-funded project completed in 2006. Then NZ Tranport Agency completed the second section from Ravenbourne to Maia in 2008, and extended it to Saint Leonards in 2012-13. The Transport Agency then built the final section from Saint Leonards to Port Chalmers between 2020 and 2023, after a lengthy investigation and design phase.

The final cache is at S 45 5A.BCD E170 3E.FGH

At S 45° 52.037′ E 170° 33.046′, look for a plaque; A is the first digit of the month of death.

At S 45° 51.989′ E 170° 33.195′, look for a stone: B is the last digit, backside, bottom.

At S 45° 51.906′ E 170° 33.611′, look for a post with a plaque: to find C,  count the number of words in the FULL name of the organisation (as stated, each word after the word 'by') that erected this and subtract one.

At S 45° 51.862′ E 170° 33.736′, look for a sign: D is the number of letters in the last word of four.

At S 45° 51.794′ E 170° 33.876′, look for an information board: to find E, calculate the digital root of the year of the illustration then divide by two.

At the same information board: F is the digital root of the son's year of death.

At S 45° 51.503′ E 170° 34.291′, look for a small sign: to find G, calculate the digital root of blue sideways number then add one.

At S S 45° 51.080′ E 170° 34.641′, look for an information board: for H, calculate the digital root of the first year mentioned in the right hand column, then multiply it by 2.

Checksum (A to H, summed) = 38
