Geocache Description:

The El Camino Viejo or "Old Road" was part of a major trade route during the Hispanic period, 1795–1850. Now you can visit history.

Please note: You will not find this cache at the posted coordinates!

This is a Puzzle Cache so in order for you to find the cache, you'll need to solve a puzzle. Here's how it goes...

First, Solve the following multiplication puzzle:

... F O U N D
x ............ A
__________
= S K I L L

[Note: It turns out there are five possible answers so... I will insist that F may not equal zero. Insignificant numbers are never used in figuring math equations. Thanks to Team Yofa for solving it five ways. (talk about an over achiever. LOL) Bill of Green Achers 12/23/08]

Where:
Like letters equal each other. (L=L)
No number is repeated. (N does not equal D)
There are 10 letters and so each must value 0-9.

Next, use the answer to get the real coordinates...

N37*38.SFI
w121*35.LUO
It's that simple. Only now you need to find the cache. Remember you don't need to tresspass or desturb the land in order to find this micro. The cache measures 1"x5"x7" I estimate. Surprisingly, there is currently no room for a pencil as I planned so you must bring something to write with!

If you feel the need, please send me an email to confirm your answer to the coordinates. I will make sure you don't waste your time hunting the wrong area.

When placed, the cache contained:
Log Sheet
$5 US FTF Prize
John's Increadible Coin
Fremont Fun Zone Coin
Ohio Quarter
The FTF Travel Bug which may be taken and placed in any new cache (per it's dirrections)

The Following is interesting history for the general area but there are No Spoilers... so don't waist your time in reading between the lines. The math puzzle above is all you need.

[Note: I grossly over rated this cache and under rated our cachers abilities. Adjusting the difficulty to a more reasonable 4. Thanks for all the encouraging logs and messages. Bill of Green Achers 12/23/02]

Throughout most of the 19th Century the Corral Hollow area was sparsely populated, and economic activities were limited to stock raising, timber cutting, and marginally productive coal mines. The town of Carnegie and its brick plant in the late 19th century. In the foreground are dark barracks for the single Italian men who came from Milan to fashion the terra cotta sculpture pieces formed at the factory. The white building just behind the barracks is the Granger Hotel, a well-known and elegant stagecoach stop between San Francisco and Fresno.

Before the turn of the century, coal and clay mining in the Corral Hollow area became economically viable, and several settlements in the vicinity of the test site were established. The largest of the towns, Carnegie, was located south of Corral Hollow Road across from Site 300. During its heyday, the town of Carnegie included churches, schools, hotels, saloons, boarding houses, the company store, company family housing, and 2,500 residents. The town and its brick plant were abandoned in 1912. The plant was dismantled in 1916, and the site reverted to its natural state with the exception of the foundations, dredging mounds, and other remnants of Carnegie's industrial past. The housing area of the town was located on land that is now incorporated as part of the test site.
