Geocache Description:

Cache is located in Cold Springs Cemetery , Auburn, NY. This cemetery contains the remains of many early Irish immigrants and Civil War veterans. While searching for this you may want to stop at the gravesite of Patrick O'Connor who spearheaded the clean-up efforts at this historic site. He was killed recently in an automobile accident and is buried here. (Coordinates for his gravesite are N 42d 57.167 W 076d 34.711)

The cache is a camo-covered zip lock bag containing a log, a pencil and info about Geocaching. This is also an all-seasons cache. A good site with more information about the cemetery and restoration efforts can be found at:http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycayuga/cem/cem4/index.htm This cemetery was the first primarily Catholic Cemetery in the City of Auburn. The land was originally purchased by Bishop John Timon in 1854. Bishop Timon was then the Bishop of Buffalo. Because the terrain and soil type proved to be less than ideal for cemetery purposes, a new catholic cemetery for the Auburn area was established in 1880 with the purchase of St. Joseph's Cemetery.
