Please join us for our monthly NMVG event and help celebrate the kick-off of National Donut Week - my favorite week of the year! The donut has a rich history, evolving from ancient cultures' fried dough creations to the modern, ring-shaped pastry we know today. The Dutch are credited with bringing "olykoeks" (oily cakes) to America in the 17th century, which were balls of sweet dough fried and often filled. The ring-shaped donut, with a hole in the center, is said to have been invented by Hanson Gregory in 1847. What is your favorite donut? Classic glazed yeast, boston cream filled, jelly, blueberry cake, old-fashioned, or something else?? My favorite is the apple fritter.
