I was once an Ingress player and in this spot I submitted a portal location because of the historical sign located here. Although the sign is no longer there it is a perfect place for a cache. I was shocked to learn there was not one here for me to find! So now others can.
Taken Directly from the US 11 Bridge Plaque that is no longer there after the construction at this location.
US 11 Bridge
Upon completion in 1928, the US 11 Bridge was the longest concrete bridge in the world. Spanning 4.7 miles long. It was the original link across Lake Pontchartrain between St. Tammany and Orleans Parishes. The company that built the US 11 Bridge, Louisiana’s first toll bridge, was called The Louisiana Pontchartrain Bridge Company, with Ely P. Watson as President. When Huey P. Long became Governor of Louisiana, he was opposed to toll bridges because he knew the importance of the free movement of traffic. In 1938, the US 11 Lake Pontchartrain Toll Bridge became a free state-owned bridge and is currently under the control of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
Erected (no longer there) by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, 2012
