Geocache Description:

From the Scioto Audubon boat ramp, you can get a great view of the historic Whittier Peninsula, an area on the Scioto River that various industries have called home over the years. This spot is also great for birding! But, if you explore the grassy picnic area on the southern end of the lot, you may find some old building rubble hiding in the leaves…

Putting on the GeoTrail every year takes a lot of work, and we couldn't do it without the help from the geocaching community. Thanks to hankpixie for helping us look after this cache!

The Spotted lanternfly first appeared in the US in 2014, and has been found within Scioto Audubon Metro Park a few times in the past 5 years. Egg masses are laid in groups of 30-50 on flat surfaces like buildings, tree trunks, etc. The masses are covered in a gray waxlike substance for camouflage and protection from the elements.

Be sure to check out the 15 other caches that are a part of this year’s Metro Parks GeoTrail! To participate in the Metro Parks GeoTrail go to Metro Parks to find complete instructions. Find, log and record the code word from at least 12 caches to be eligible for one of 125 limited edition GeoCoins. Find all 15 caches to unlock the coordinates to the Bonus Puzzle Cache.
