Geocache Description:

Welcome to The west side of Mount Vernon. This property has been in the family for over 50 years.  Our parents owned it as pasture feed for the dairy cattle then added a home back in the 90's.

The current homeowners grew up on dairy and crop farms in Bow to the north and just down the road two miles to the south.   We moved off the family farm in 2008 and settled here.   We may have moved off the farm, but kept farming going.   We added fruit tree's, chickens, sheep, and whatever else that comes our way.   We added a Little Free Library to add some fun activities for the local families.

farming and agriculture runs deep in our genes.  Great-Granddad started the ole spud house in the 1920's just two miles to the southeast from here where Calhoun and Penn Roads meet.   Granddad and great granddad used horses and wagons to grow potatoes in area fields, and were the first farmers to have a rubber-tired tractor.   One mile to the east directly across the field next to you, our Mom and Dad started McLean Road Tree farm.  Many of their pre-cut trees were grown here, on the back eight acres and were brought fresh to the Sales Lot at the tree farm.

So as you travel around the Westside of Mount Vernon, take in the sights, sounds and smells of live farming.   And take a moment to thank a farmer.
