The Escambia County Equestrian Center is a 151-acre park and multi-purpose venue. The center hosts numerous events throughout the year, and is home to just over a mile in nature trails throughout the north section of the property. In addition, the facility is home to a very remarkable species, the Gopher Tortoise. Due to the habitat of longleaf pines, sandy well drained soils, and open understories, the species can have plenty of shelter and food.
The county’s Natural Resources Conservation division has been providing land management within the county park to reduce invasive vegetation and mulching the denser areas. This in turn will not only help the habitat for the Gopher Tortoise but for other animals that dwell in the area.
