This cache sits at the entrance to The Palms, one of the newest housing estates in Cairns — but this land has a bit of a story. Not too long ago, this whole area was home to Paradise Palms Golf Course, a lush and well-known course that attracted more tourists than locals (partly because it wasn’t cheap!).
A lot of locals still felt pretty sad to see all that green space disappear. Now it’s being reshaped into a residential estate that’s still under construction. There’s talk of parks, a school, a little shopping village — and maybe even a waterpark (we're hopeful, but let’s be real… Cairns has had a few waterpark promises that didn’t quite happen 😅).
It’s fair to say there are mixed feelings about all the housing going up out this way — especially with concerns about whether the infrastructure can keep up. But there’s no denying the beauty of the setting. The mountain views are magic, and there’s a quiet feeling here that hints at what it used to be.
The cache is hidden nearby. Take a moment to soak in the scene — a place caught between what it was, and what it might become.
