Welcome to a scenic rest stop along the West Virginia Turnpike!
This small cache is tucked safely near the railing of an overlook above the Brush Creek Nature Preserve, just off I-77 northbound. It’s a perfect spot to stretch your legs, enjoy a picnic, and take in the sweeping views of the Appalachian mountains and the winding waters of Brush Creek, which eventually tumble over Brush Creek Falls before joining the Bluestone River.
The cache is a black bison tube hidden without the need to cross any fences or step beyond the overlook railing. Please use stealth and care, as this is a popular stop for travelers and nature lovers alike.
Brush Creek Preserve spans 124 acres of rich, scenic beauty and biodiversity. The preserve is home to rare and uncommon species, including white cedar, Canada yew, and the globally rare Canby’s mountain-lover. In the spring, trilliums and wildflowers create a stunning display, and birders might hear the flute-like song of the wood thrush or catch sight of various warblers in the trees.
Take a moment to pause to take in a fresh breath of Appalachian air and appreciate the view of the natural wonders of the area — a true hidden gem of southern West Virginia.
