Skrytka jest częścią serii "Śladami Toruńskich Geografów" przedstawiającej lokalizacje związane z ponad 80-letnią historią Wydziału Nauk o Ziemi i Gospodarki Przestrzennej UMK w Toruniu. Jest to reaktywacja serii po ponad 10 latach, która została założona przez ówczesnych członków Studenckiego Koła Naukowego Geografów UMK wraz z opiekunami naukowymi Koła.
W latach 1995–2006 w budynku przy ul. Jurija Gagarina 5 w Toruniu mieściły się dwie jednostki Instytutu Geografii Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika: Zakład Geografii Społecznej oraz Pracownia Kartografii i Teledetekcji. Obiekt ten, zlokalizowany w sąsiedztwie głównego kampusu uniwersyteckiego, pełnił wówczas ważną rolę w rozwoju badań z zakresu geografii człowieka oraz nowoczesnych metod obrazowania i analizy przestrzennej.

The cache is part of the series "In the Footsteps of Toruń Geographers," which presents locations connected to the more than 80-year history of the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. This is a revival of the series after more than 10 years, originally created by members of the Student Scientific Association of Geographers at NCU together with the academic supervisors of the Association.
Between 1995 and 2006, the building at 5 Jurij Gagarin Street in Toruń housed two units of the Institute of Geography at Nicolaus Copernicus University: the Department of Social Geography and the Cartography and Remote Sensing Laboratory. Located near the university’s main campus, the facility played an important role in advancing research in human geography as well as in modern methods of spatial imaging and analysis.
