I have noticed that it is common for geocachers to name caches after grandchildren, and when I became a grandparent on May 1, I figured what better way to welcome James into the world than to name a cache after him. He only missed being born on Blue Switch Day by two hours, which would have been a sure sign that he will become a geocacher, but I'm still hoping. The cache is in Red Smith Park, just a few miles from where James lives, so I thought it would be appropriate.
Red Smith Park is named after Green Bay native and legendary sportswriter Walter Wellesley (Red) Smith who wrote from 1927 to 1982 for newspapers in Milwaukee, St. Louis, Philadelphia, and New York. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1976, the J. G. Taylor Spink Award for baseball writing in 1976, and in 1981 was the winner of the inaugural Red Smith Award for oustanding contributions to sports journalism.
The park features a basketball court, a softball diamond, an ice rink, soccer fields and a shelter with restrooms among other amenities. Is also has a small wooded area, perfect for hiding a geocache. You are looking for a camoflaged pill bottle. It's large for a pill bottle, but small by geocaching standards. Please put it back exactly as you found it.
I stocked it with a couple of Hot Wheels for trading and a travel bug I picked up last week.
Congratulations frizz for being the first to find.
