Geocache Description:

Your journey begins along the Castleman Trailway, a peaceful multi-use route that traces the path of the former Southampton and Dorchester Railway, once nicknamed the “Castleman Corkscrew” for its winding route through rural Dorset.

As you walk along the trail, you'll pass by the Lady Wimborne Bridge, a Victorian-era structure completed in the 1850s. Commissioned by the Guest family of Canford Manor, the bridge was named after Lady Cornelia Guest, later Lady Wimborne.

The bridge formed part of the line connecting Brockenhurst to Dorchester via Ringwood and Wimborne. Though passenger services ceased earlier, the final train crossed this bridge on 3 May 1977 during recovery work after the closure of Wimborne station.

The bridge’s decorative buttresses and imposing keystones stand as a proud example of local industrial heritage. Now Grade II listed, it’s admired by walkers and railway buffs alike.

Continue along the trail for another 200-ish metres, the cache is tucked discreetly just off the path, under a low branch in an ICT — no need to climb or disturb nature.
