The history of Milledgeville can be told in two parts...
The mill was originally constructed here in 1834, attracting people to begin settling along the blocks on either side of the road heading west from what is now Route 40. Hence, the mill-on-the-edge-of-the-ville. This area was referred to as "Old Town."
Milledgeville was incorporated as a village in 1886, the same year the railroad came rolling into "New Town." This area was further north than Old Town and the businesses that once flourised to the south shuttered and moved north of the tracks closer to the bustling depot.
Perhaps you can even envision the depot while you stand here looking for the cache... there are lots of reminders of it in the immediate area!
