Most people will want to attack this cache using a Ferry service to Quail Island, but if you are really keen, at low tide you can actually access the island via King Billy Island, crossing the mud flats, or if you have a boat, kayak or wind surfer you could use these to get to the island.
There is plenty to look at while you are on Quail Island, unfortunately no quails as the native quail (Coturnix n. novaezealandiae) became extinct in 1875. The sights includes (but not limited to) a Ships Graveyard, Ballast rock quarry, Leper Colony, Dog Kennels (where Scott trained his dogs for his ill-fated race to the Pole). In information centre on the island has a display about all the things that went on through the habitation of Quail Island.
The cache is a 200ml camo painted container that, when placed, held:
- Rubber Alien
- Smiley Face Clip
- Ladybird
- Marble from Gavs Glentui Bush Cache
- Logbook, Pencil and Sharpener
Please ensure that you respect the area and note that the cache is visible without moving or removing anything from the area.
