***Trigger Warning...cache description is on the macabre side***
This open space preserve contains an elaborate cave network with many winding and connecting passages totaling 1,250 feet making it the longest known cave system in New Jersey. There are mutliple entrances, and the sections range in size from standing height to that of a small drainage pipe. In 1982 a NJ Trooper/Cub Scoutmaster exploring the caves with his kids became hopelessly stuck head first in a tapering, downward angled passage. Sadly, despite days of round the clock rescue attempts, he died from hypothermia before he could be extracted. Google the name Donald Weltner for news artlicles and videos of what exactly happened. R.I.P.
Initially, I intended to place this cache deeper into the preserve at one of the cave entrances pictured below, however at this time of year it requires either a difficult wetland bushwack, or crossing onto private property. This location should be much easier. Container is a new 'muggle resistant' design and contains log sheet and a few small trade items but BYOP. Please just make sure to lock up when you're done...
