1955 was a very momentous year. Just like Ford, a new model arrived in our family. But unlike the Thunderbird which went out of production in 2005, I'm still hanging in there (minus a few original parts) and with a few more dings and scratches since I started caching back in 2004.
At a recent event I was involved in a discussion about names and how we got them. So why Vickie? As the first girl in a house full of boys who were all named after someone, my folks were sure I would be another boy, so no girl name was ready however, my mother loved Judy Garland and had seen her in the 1954 remake of A Star Is Born. In the story Garland plays an unknown named Esther Blodget who is discovered and gets her big break, but of course the name Esther is not a star name, so Vicki Lester is born. Must have been a lot of Garland fans in 1955 who watched that movie because I never had fewer than 3 or 4 other Vicki/Vickie/Vicky's in my classroom every year.
My 60th birthday celebration took place on the other side of the country in Nags Head, NC - a stone's throw from the Atlantic. Check out GC5X5EK gallery for pix of my geocaching journey if you'd like. So now that California is my home it seems appropriate to end the 60s and begin the 70s clear across the country and a stone's throw from the Pacific.
