Monocacy Hill Anthology Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

edscott: Just went up to place the new cache and went around to this one on the way. Wow things have changed since I placed it. I came at the newly fallen tree from the North so just saw the rootball at first. From that side it must have taken be 5 minutes for the last 50 feet. Glad I wore shoes. I was considering shorts and sandals but opted for shorts and real shoes. The cache was dry so I took it along to the new location and used it there. The one I prepared will go elsewhere. Anthology was good for 10 1/2 years. In today's world it would have been a 4x4, but back then in this area, micros were just getting started and parking lot caches were unique. I even got on the bandwagon and put one out. So things change and the replacement certainly isn't as challenging, but you still need to climb the hill. Look for GC4DHCC "Wimpy Rocks" to be published soon.

Geocache Description:

Monocacy Hill, Berks Co. PA - A cute little hill between the larger masses of French Creek to the South, and the hills from Mount Penn to Fancy Hill stretching across the view North.

This cache is for those that are comfortable being off trail in steep and rocky terrain. Please do not overestimate your agility when negotiating steep and stony ground.

You are invited, but not required, to add some original writings to the logbook, penned by the cache visitors, poetry or prose... on any topic. Take from the past and give to the future. Plan your visit with some time to sit and read the log. Compose your contribution here, or bring it along and recopy it into the book. Please don’t copy it on the web site. Make folks get out and find it to enjoy it.

Edit.. The first logbook was lost when the rock shifted and covered the original box so those scrolls are now more or less archived for the distant future. Feel free to start a new set, or just enjoy the spot before starting your scramble for the trail.

Parking for about 10 cars is North of the coordinates. There are several picnic tables and a couple of charcoal grills. Primitive toilets are available. A sign showing the trails in the park is available, however in the park planning style that is all too frequent, it is not oriented with the ground and thus requires about 90 degrees of rotation to make any sense.
.. and a special thanks to "Just Looking" for providing the coordinates. Sometimes a GPS is a bit better than my gut instinct. Plan your route carefully. The area is rocky.

Please rehide it carefully keeping the weathered side of the covering to the outside. Nothing shouts "cache" quite as loudly as a freshly exposed surface.
