Geocache Description:

Located off Old North Shore Road, just North of Duluth, MN. Park at the "Bridge Out" or "Road Closed" (not sure which) signs at either side of bridge.

***Updated coordinates on 3/5/2003 based on butcho's comments - thanks for the help!***

Before Highway 61 there was the old, "scenic" 61. Before either 61 came into being there was the North Shore Road. This was a road that was built to link the communities along Lake Superior's North Shore - before that all there was was boat travel. Legend has it that parts of the road were constructed by the communities that it ran through and were completed in an odd fashion - each stretch of road was done individually and it was years before they were all done and the road finally spaned the whole length.

The walk in to the cache starts at a bridge no longer rated for vehicle travel, but safe for foot/bike travel. From there it is a short walk past a waterfall to the cache.

I grew up very close to this spot, where Old North Shore Road crosses the French river. The river right here is Schmidt Creek.

Container is a small ammo box.
