Geocache Description:

Welcome to the only authentic Letterbox Hybrid currently (June, 2025) in Bosnia & Herzegovina. This has been placed in Tribute to the magnificent Athletes, Organisers, Volunteers and of course the thousands of spectators who made the Sarajevo Winter Olympics 84 highly successful and memorable, by visiting this GeoCache you will get to see the beautiful Malo Polje on Mount Igman and marvel at the remains of the 2 Winter Olympics Ski-Jumps here.

Similar to the traditional, hundreds of years old "Dartmoor Letterboxing - from which the idea of GeoCaching derived from", the Clues/Instructions will take you to the "vicinity" of the Letterbox Hybrid Cache Hide, though this will be a lot easier to Find than the majority of Letterboxes on Englands' Dartmoor, where some of the clues would only take you to within 100m or further from the Hide! By following the 10 points (with photos for each in Page 1 of the Gallery), the Final Point (Number 10) is Exactly 5.5 metres from the Letterbox Hide.

I hope the fairly short trail, wonderful scenery and Final Hunt for the Letterbox will be as enjoyable for all of you as it was for me Placing it, it has been in the planning for several months.

The Letterbox itself is approx: "shoebox" size and comes with a very nice Logbook with plenty of spaces for people's personal Stamps and messages, the Stamp has been lovingly designed as it features the friendly Wolf Mascot of the Sarajevo Olympics "Vučko", hopefully it will become a sought after favourite stamp to have among GeoCachers.

There are several small bags of Swag with a surprise in each, if you can kindly take one and let me know when the last one has been taken by message or in the logbook so they can be replenished it would be very much appreciated.

Bring your Stamp/log/note books or even a piece of paper to stamp on, there is a rubber stamp and ink pad in the Letterbox, if you don't have a personal stamp please bring a pen or pencil with you to Sign the Logbook, I will revisit to add pens soon.

I would like to take this opportunity to Thank each and every one of you for choosing to go this far out of your way to visit Bosnia's only authentic Letterbox Hybrid Cache.

Take Care & Stay Safe.

Kindest Regards,

Follow the Instructions below to Find this Letterbox Hybrid Cache, there are 10 points, each one has a corresponding numbered photo in Page 1 of the Gallery, it is easy to follow and you will be at the vicinity of the Hide in Approx: 10 - 15 minutes from the Start Point. The Letterbox Hide is camouflaged, I would kindly ask everyone after you have Logged your Find, to place the container back in the Hide and replace the camouflage as close to the original look as you can, in order to make the Search & Find as enjoyable for the next Geocacher. Many Thanks.

*Look at each Photo numbered 1 - 10 for clarification in the Gallery*

1) From the Start Point 1 at the right hand edge of the bottom of the largest Ski-Jump Ramp, walk up the few steps and path over the grass to the right side for Approx: 30m until you get to a column below the Ski-Jump.

2) See Photo 2 showing the column you need to walk past.

3) Pass underneath the Ski-Jump beside this column and onto the stony path and head to the column below the shorter Ski-Jump with the coloured spots painted on it.

4) See Photo 4, watch your footing along the path, look out for a partly covered hole in the concrete, it is not deep but you don't want to step into it as there is rebar and other debris in it.

5) You will see arrive at the Column with the coloured painted spots below the shorter Ski_Jump.

6) From the column, head through the gap in the trees to the Chair-Lift Pylon.

7) After about 60/70 metres you will be under the Chair-Lift.

8) From the Chair-Lift Pylon you will see a small derelict maintenance hut (no need to go in the hut).

9) Walk to the hut, you have now arrived at the final point from where to begin the search for the Letterbox Hide.

10) Check Photo 10, the Letterbox Hybrid Cache is in a Camouflaged Hide EXACTLY 5.5 metres from the corner of the hut, so it is very close but hidden. Use your GeoCaching Senses to locate and ucover the Letterbox Hide.

*CAUTION: As with any Cache Hide throughout the Balkans, out in the wilderness, in woods, mountains, rocky and heavily overgrown areas away from the general population, it is advisable to pick up a stick and knock it around on the ground, against trees and branches infront of you to create vibration to ward off any potential snake, in general they will be scared away but be careful if surprising or cornering one.

*This Cache will not be reachable during Winter due to heavy snow in the mountains, it is advisable to visit the area to Find the Cache outside of the severe Winter months, so from around End March/Beginning of April through to Mid to late October.*
