The cache is an unusual container, but shouldn't involve disturbing much of the plant life.
The Secret Garden gets its name's sake due to its somewhat secluded nature. It's concealed by the Life Science buildings and Doudna, nestled between to create a hidden sanctuary off the main path. The garden was established around 1980 by the Botany Department Chair and greenhouse manager Russ Wedern. At this time, the garden's trees and shrubs were planted in the space; several EIU department's donations helped to bring the garden to life with plentiful plantlife. The buckeye tree still located here is a seedling of a tree that resides in the local Whiteside Botanical Garden. Take a moment to appreciate the garden and the dozens of unique plants that call it home.
This account is run by EIU's Health Education Resource Center, associated with the EIU Health & Counseling Services, and is permitted to place Geocache's on campus grounds. Our goal is to promote student engagement with nature and provide ways for them to find and appreciate campus green spaces.
