Geocache Description:

There is a tremendous view from this point! Though there is a pull-out on top of the third hill, it is a no stopping area. Park at N51 44.612 W113 15.881 and walk to the top of the hill. Enjoy the vista (great place to watch thunderstorms).

Geologically, these hills are drumlins, a reminder of Alberta's glacial history. This area is rife with such features as eskers, drumlins and glacial outwash deposits.

Near this site, a Cree brave Maskepetoon killed his first three Blackfoot warriors. Local lore has it that at least one Blackfoot is buried on this hill in a ring of spruce trees.

Maskepetoon spent the first half of his adult life leading raids on the Blackfoot nation, becoming a great chief. He became a Christian and spent the remainder of his life trying to make peace. A traveler, Maskepetoon went as far as Washington DC, receiving a medal from Andrew Jackson. He was friends with Revs. McDougal and Rundle, met Paul Kane and Sir George Simpson. He met his death in a Blackfoot camp where he had gone on a peace-keeping mission. For more information, go to http://www.albertasource.ca/methodist/Own_Voices/Maskepetoon.htm

Watch for barbed wire, do not cross over the fence.
