Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Red Cedar State Trail, a 14.5-mile trail running through Dunn County from Menomonie to the Chippewa River State Trail in Red Cedar. It forms a part of the Chippewa Valley trail system (CVTS), which currently comprises three interconnecting trails totaling almost sixty miles: the Old Abe State Trail, the Chippewa River State Trail, and the Red Cedar State Trail, linking the communities of Cornell, Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, and Menomonie along with several smaller towns and villages. The trail's development is situated on the former corridor of the Red Cedar Junction railway, historically serving Knapp, Stout & Co., and was utilized for transporting stone from local quarries that were active in the area from 1880 through the 1950s. Established in the late 1970s, the Red Cedar Trail offers a delightful journey through the rural countryside with its limestone surface, following the scenic route of the Red Cedar River and showcasing prairies, marshes, forests, and rock formations. The trail presents various activities such as biking, hiking, jogging, birdwatching, and cross-country skiing, making it suitable for individuals of all ages due to its relatively flat terrain.

Hikers do not need a trail pass. Bicyclists 16 years or older are required to have a State trail pass in order to use the trail.  Trail passes are available at https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/admission/trailpass
