The presence of a religious settlement in the area dates back to the late Roman era, as demonstrated by the necropolis and other finds found in 1958 not far from the church.[2]  On the hill where the church of Sant'Antonino stands today, there was a temple dedicated to Jupiter.[3]  The church, documented starting from 1579, following the separation from the parish church of Riva San Vitale, probably dates back to the Early Middle Ages and probably to the 7th century.  Its current appearance, however, is mostly due to the modifications made between the 17th and 18th centuries, when the then existing church, dating back to the Late Middle Ages and still partly visible, was enlarged.  One of the columns of the portico dates back to the 14th century. 

La Chiesa di San Anotnino sita in Besazio, risale probabilmente al 1500, i primi documenti certi son datati del 1579, visto che a Besazio non vi erano cache , e visto il bellissimo wiew point, mi sembrava giusto far conoscere questa parte del mendrisiotto.
