Event on the island: Tuesday Aug 12, 2025, 11:15 - 12:00
Hart-Miller Island is a geographical wonder in Chesapeake Bay, just off Essex, MD. It's an island, so you will need to get there by boat. If you are interested in birds, you won't want to miss this.
Departure point: 2024 Riverview Road, Essex, MD. Drive through the open metal gate and park in the area near the dock. There is plenty of parking. Arrive by 9:30 sharp. Don't let stopping for caches on the way in make you late!
There is a port-a-potty at the parking area. You will get (and wear) life vests here. The boat ride takes about 15 minutes.
Hart-Miller Island is said to be one of the top three eBird hotspots in all of Maryland, with 306+ species reported on eBird as of spring 2025, and 311 species on the official list maintained by the Maryland Ornithological Society.

The island has two earthcaches to enjoy: Beached on Hart-Miller Island GC9DRFE and Dredge or Die: The Story of Hart-Miller Island GC9D1BZ. Transport logistics are explained on the pages of either of those caches.
Also, there are two traditional cachers on the island to find.
Our objectives are to visit the island with its geography and history as well as take a group photo. Feel free to bring snacks and/or a lunch.
I have organized a boat going over which has room for 20 people. If it fills up, we will have a wait list. The boat leaves from Essex. There is no cost for the boat ride. I will post more info on the MGS forums (it will be a duplicate of previous trip info). There is a public beach so people who have a boat are welcome to meet us there as well. Please let me know if you have any questions. I believe this will be the 5 such event held on the island. People have loved it and I hope you will too.
