The Eckhart Park property was originally used as a Methodist Camp Meeting grounds from1878 to 1914. In 1917 Frederick Eckhart purchased the land and donated it to the City of Viroqua. The Eckhart Enchantment Playground, built by volunteers in 1996, features a large dragon, and the park is known locally as Dragon Park. The wooden structures of the playground have served well beyond the expected lifetime of 20 years. Planning is underway to replace the playground in 2026. Time will tell if there will continue to be a dragon at Dragon Park.
