As with many cemeteries, this site started with a church. As early as 1839, services were held here by Rev. James Craik, grandson of Dr. James Craik, friend and physician of George Washington. The original log cabin church built on this lot was destroyed by fire during the battle of Scary in 1861. In 1934 a church/school was built here. It building is now gone as well. The oldest grave site is Henry Sims who died Dec 10, 1849.
Scary Cemetery sits right beside Teays Valley Road. Hundreds of people drive by this spot every day but few stop. A cache was once located here, but like the “residents”, it has been archived. 274 cachers found that original cache. This hide is placed in hopes of bringing people back. Don’t let the name keep you away, and don’t be afraid to admit in your log what you are afraid of.
You may need to bring a friend for moral support, if nothing else. If you happen to hear a whisper on the wind saying, “Welcome back, hope you can stay longer this time”, it is probably just your imagination. No night-time caching please (would you really want too?).
You are looking for a camo covered ammo container. Please be respectful of these old graves and the forgotten people here. Please place back exactly as found and BYOP just in case the one in the cache dies.
Congratulations to Sir Dave for the FTF
