Geocache Description:

This collection of caches has nothing to do with the Church Micro series in the UK. Given that the Australian 2021 census indicates that No Religion and Jedi Knight are still the fastest increasing classifications of the optional religion question "What is the person's religion?" it is not surprising that there is surfeit of empty churches that have been repurposed.

Smith of Dunesk Mission, Beltana

Beltana was the base for the Smith of Dunesk Mission a travelling mission across far northern SA. The venture was approved by the Church of Scotland and the money was provided from a fund set up by Mrs Henrietta Smith from Dunesk in Scotland. Hence the name of the church.

The mission based in Beltana provided primitive medical and dental services as well as pastoral services to lonely folk. The mission was the foundation of the Australian Inland Mission and the Royal Flying Doctor Service which provides services across the outback. The church is owned by the Presbyterian Church and services are still held there on occasions.

Although this church is still used on the odd occasion, it is definitely not used to the extent it was in the past, and therefore I am adding it to the Used 2B series!

The cache can be found at the following location:

Where A = The year the photo on the information board featuring the Sturt pea was taken (19A0).

and B = the number of windows on the front of the building.
