Swee’Pea made his debut on July 24, 1933. He was introduced as a foundling infant, left on Popeye’s doorstep, with no information about his biological parents. Popeye, being the kind-hearted and compassionate sailor that he is, immediately takes Swee’Pea under his wing and adopts him as his own son, or as he affectionately calls him, his “boy-kid.” As the years went on, Swee'Pea apparently aged enough to speak normally, and could throw punches if necessary; however, his appearance remained that of a crawling baby.
