Marker 17 of the Hickory Hills trail here takes you to the remains of the Sylvan Estates Country Club pumphouse. Water was pumped from this location to the greens and fairways of the golf course. Untreated lake water was also used for drinking! Only partial remnants of the stone foundation remain, as the Country Club went bankrupt during the great depression of the 1930s. The land was later acquired by the State and added to the Waterloo Rec area.
