Înfiinţată în anul 1920, la scurt timp după unirea teritoriilor româneşti, într-un context european marcat de redefinirea statală şi tarele primului război mondial, Şcoala Politehnică din Timişoara – cum s-a numit la început – a constituit răspunsul pentru una din cerinţele formulate de societatea românească a vremii, şi anume formarea de ingineri.
În structura Universităţii Politehnica Timişoara sunt incluse facultăţi, departamente, institute şi centre de cercetare, laboratoare, biblioteci, cămine, cantine, baze sportive, precum şi serviciile tehnice şi administrative, editura şi tipografia, policlinica studenţească. Cele 10 facultăţi ale universităţii asigură programe de studii pentru aproximativ 13500 studenţi. În cadrul celor 25 departamente îşi desfăşoară activitatea peste 800 cadre didactice, iar personalul administrativ şi auxiliar numără în jur de 1000 cadre.

Established in 1920, shortly after the unification of Romanian territories, in a European context marked by state redefinition and the aftermath of the First World War, the Politehnica School of Timișoara – as it was originally called – represented the response to one of the demands of Romanian society at the time: the training of engineers.
The structure of the Politehnica University of Timișoara includes faculties, departments, research institutes and centers, laboratories, libraries, dormitories, cafeterias, sports facilities, as well as technical and administrative services, a publishing house and printing press, and a student health clinic. The university’s 10 faculties offer study programs for approximately 13,500 students. Over 800 teaching staff work within the 25 departments, and the administrative and support staff number around 1,000 members.
