Signal and Tracker at West Wilson Lake
Wilson Creek Geocaching Adventure Video
The "Wilson Creek Geo-Adventure" will involve approximately 100 kms of driving.
35 kms is on a paved highway. The other 65 kms is on the Wilson Creek FSR which is described as a good, 2 wheel drive, gravel road, and while that is mostly true the section from Wilson Lake East along Wilson Lake to Wilson Lake West has become really rough and there is going to be some pinstripping. Having said that if you don't want to damage your vehicle you can turn around at East Wilson Lake and then drive up the Wilson Lake Road on the other side of Box Lake.
In order to locate the final cache: "Wilson Creek Geo-Adventure Final" you must visit ten caches. Each cache will have a clue written on the lid as well as in the logbook. Write the clue down.
This Adventure will take you to several pristine mountain lakes and spectacular waterfalls with plenty of opportunities for camping, hiking, and fishing. To get the most enjoyment out of this caching series we strongly recommend bringing your camping gear. Also don't forget your camera, bug spray, and fishing rods. As always, remember to be bear aware.
Wilson Lake's fishing is described as some of the best rainbow trout fishing in the Kootenays with fish of sizes up to 3 kg (6.5 lb). Kokanee are also abundant in the lake. There is a recreation site at both ends of the lake that provide campsites and a place to put in a small boat.
The West side is less populated but only has two campsites. When the road ends at the recreation site follow the trail toward the little old cabin. It's hard to believe that just a few short years ago people stayed in the cabin.
Directions: From the intersection of Wilson Creek FSR and Wilson Lake Rd. (N50 14.456 W117 40.162) take the road north to the Y junction at N50 14.546 117 39.765. Take the right fork to get to Wilson Lake West.
This is a stand-a-lone cache, you are welcome to just log this cache if you don't have time to take in the entire Adventure.
