Devon Rosery and Fruit Farm Ltd once owned 28.73ha of land in and around Cockington. In its heyday it employed 75 people and grew 100,000 rose bushes, many of which were shipped as far as South Africa.
Soft fruits, fruit trees, salad crops abd flowers were also grown in the village by the company.
Sadly the company began winding up in 1945 with the development of Chelston and surrounding urban areas. The fruit farm closed its doors in 1951. The two small dwellings used to house the managers and workers of the fruit farm became lodgings and the land utilised for farm land under the countryside trust.
This geocache sits overlooking the valley that would have been the centre of the fruit farms, with the managers cottage in the distance
