We all know that geocaching can take us to interesting and weird places that we might have never heard of otherwise. I figured that events could be used in a similar manner to point out curious events and stories, various odds and sods, that I stumbled upon while wandering around in internet rabbit holes.

in 1835
The first in a series of six articles known as the Great Moon Hoax was published in The Sun (a New York newspaper). The articles were about the supposed discovery of life and civilization on the Moon. They described animals and bat-like winged humanoids. The discoveries were falsely attributed to Sir John Herschel and his fictitious companion Andrew Grant. In September the same year, The Sun admitted the articles were in fact fabricated.
