This is the first cache in a four-part series around the perimeter of Harrington Park.
Maybe you’ve noticed that it’s not unusual for new housing developments … which often can mean whole new suburbs … to only have one road leading in and out. And sure, this is sometimes an unavoidable result of the area’s topography. But the cynic in me suggests that it’s more often the result of penny-pinching on the part of the developers, and government authorities (?local, ?state … not doing their bit to provide adequate main roads to assist in clearing the bottlenecks and probably both doing a bit of mutual blame-shifting as well). I’m sure that many who read this can testify to traffic choke points at pinch-times in the day … notably morning and evening peak hours, and school drop-off and pick-up times.
One thing that I noticed fairly early-on was the excellent provision made for ingress/egress that Harrington Park/Grove has. Helped by decent-sized main roads to receive the traffic spill when volumes are high:
two roads entering onto Camden Valley Way
two onto Oran Park Drive
two onto the Northern Rd
and two onto Dan Cleary Drive*
A very “entrancing” place indeed!
And though school pick up and drop-off can be periods of slow traffic around the school itself, the place has been set up so that this zone can be avoided if you’re not a school pickup person. Here's something extra for those taking the trouble to read this … “Geocaching Toolbox”. This cache, in fact, marks the entrance if you wishing to minimise or even eliminate the effect of that twice-daily traffic clog (depending on your destination)
* the Dan Cleary Dr entrances don’t provide access to the entire suburb, but to two separate pockets of housing. While, in an emergency situation, a supplementary exit could be desirable, in both cases, the number of dwellings is sufficiently small that for most daily needs one road in & out satisfies. And if they meet up in the future ... Hey presto! There is your next pair of entry/exit routes!
