Red Rocks III Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Ullii: Curses! I went out today to replace the cache, and the big rock that was its hiding place has been rolled down the hill! Obviously intentionally -- it's too big to have rolled off by itself. Oddly, I found the top part of the fake rock, but no bottom or chrisfawcett1's replacement log. I looked around for another decent location nearby, but there's nothing except poison oak and a steep dropoff, so I'm going to let this one go. There won't be a Red Rocks IV, at least not here. Thanks to the few folks who managed to visit this one before it disappeared.

Geocache Description:

I've had two "Red Rocks" hides in this area. One of them lasted for years and had 82 finders, and the second one was destroyed by trail work in just over a year. I really like this area, though, with the view of the reservoir and all the turkey vultures who hang out back here. (I mean they're not very cute, but you have to admit they're impressive.)

The latest version of this cache is a simple hide just a step or two off the Guadalupe Trail. There's poison oak in the general area, but none next to the cache. A sharp-eyed cacher will spot this cache as they walk up.

The nearest access is over the dam, but you can get here with just a few miles' hike from several other entrances. (Note that at the time this cache was placed, there was no rope at the dam, so you have to scale it yourself.)

Park hours are 8:00am to sunset. Trail hours are sunrise to sunset. Happy hunting!
