Questa descrizione vale per le tre cache che ho nascosto durante una lunga passeggiata con destinazione il Lago Fauri. Consiglio di scaricarle offline, perché la connessione scompare completamente dopo poco dal punto di partenza.
Io ho fatto il percorso partendo da Pattemouche e passando per la Val Troncea, quindi darò indicazioni per raggiungere le cache seguendo questo itinerario. L’altra opzione (più lunga, a giudicare dalle curve di livello) è partire da Bessèn Haut, passare per il Colle Fauri e poi scendere; questo sentiero sembra comunque ben segnalato grazie alle cache di un altro hider. Mi limiterò quindi a descrivere il percorso che ho seguito personalmente.
Si parte da Pattemouche o dal Rifugio Mulino di Laval, dove sono disponibili vari parcheggi (5, 7 o 9 euro la domenica, a seconda di quanto ci si addentra nella valle). Si cammina su una carrabile sterrata quasi pianeggiante, che conduce verso il Rifugio Troncea, fino a raggiungere un bivio.
Si oltrepassa il bivio per il Rifugio Troncea e, in circa un’ora di cammino dalla partenza, si arriva a un nuovo bivio (GCBB5VZ). Da qui si vede il Rifugio Alpe del Meys, facilmente raggiungibile, ma si prosegue prendendo il sentiero a destra: inizia così la parte più impegnativa, con la maggior parte del dislivello.
Poco dopo si incontrano delle rocce, superate grazie a cavi corrimano. La salita nel bosco è ripida e caratterizzata da tornanti ravvicinati che permettono di guadagnare rapidamente quota. Gli alberi si diradano progressivamente, lasciando spazio a praterie verdi, ricche di fiori e insetti. La salita termina su un colletto che si affaccia su un’ampia conca sommitale, dominata a destra dalle pareti rocciose dei monti Platasse e Giornalet.
Il sentiero attraversa le praterie e si inoltra fino in fondo al vallone. Si guada poi il rio e si risale il versante opposto, dove la visuale si apre in corrispondenza del bivio segnalato per il Lago Nero (GCBB5X6), raggiungibile con una traccia quasi pianeggiante di circa 600 metri. Lungo il percorso abbiamo avvistato un paio di marmotte. Il Lago Nero è molto più piccolo del Lago Fauri e assomiglia più a uno stagno che a un vero lago.
Proseguendo in salita per circa 15 minuti, si arriva al Lago Fauri (GCBB5WX). In una giornata calda è possibile fare il bagno: noi l’abbiamo trovato a circa 16 °C. È molto meno stagnante del Lago Nero e offre una vista splendida.
Per il ritorno, si segue lo stesso percorso a ritroso, prestando particolare attenzione al tratto ripido intermedio.
Tra andata e ritorno ho percorso circa 34.000 passi: il dislivello è notevole e poco distribuito, quindi conviene essere ben preparati.

This description applies to the three caches I hid during a long hike to Lake Fauri. I recommend downloading them for offline use, because the signal disappears completely shortly after the starting point.
I did the route starting from Pattemouche and passing through the Val Troncea, so I will give directions to reach the caches following this itinerary. The other option (longer, judging by the contour lines) is to start from Bessèn Haut, pass by the Colle Fauri and then descend; this trail also seems well marked thanks to the caches of another hider. I will therefore limit myself to describing the route I personally followed.
You can start from Pattemouche or from the Mulino di Laval Refuge, where there are several parking areas available (€5, €7, or €9 on Sundays, depending on how far into the valley you drive). You walk along a nearly flat dirt road leading toward the Troncea Refuge until you reach a junction.
Pass the junction for the Troncea Refuge and, after about an hour’s walk from the starting point, you arrive at another junction (GCBB5VZ). From here you can see the Alpe del Meys Refuge, which is easily reachable, but you continue by taking the path to the right: this is where the more challenging part begins, with most of the elevation gain.
Shortly after, you encounter some rocks, which you pass with the help of handrail cables. The climb through the forest is steep, with tight switchbacks that quickly gain altitude. The trees gradually thin out, giving way to green meadows full of flowers and insects. The climb ends at a small pass overlooking a wide high-altitude basin, dominated on the right by the rocky walls of Mounts Platasse and Giornalet.
The trail crosses the meadows and continues to the end of the valley. You then ford the stream and climb the opposite slope, where the view opens up at the signed junction for Lake Nero (GCBB5X6), which can be reached via an almost flat track of about 600 meters. Along the way, we spotted a couple of marmots. Lake Nero is much smaller than Lake Fauri and looks more like a pond than a true lake.
Continuing uphill for about 15 minutes, you arrive at Lake Fauri (GCBB5WX). On a warm day, it’s possible to swim: we found it at about 16 °C. It is far less stagnant than Lake Nero and offers a splendid view.
For the return, follow the same route back, paying particular attention to the steep middle section.
Round trip, I walked about 34,000 steps: the elevation gain is significant and not well distributed, so it’s best to be well prepared.
