Auch der Hofmathematiker von Friedrich und Alexander, den Gründern der Universität in Erlangen, hatte das Glück, von seinem Kaiser ein Grundstück vermacht zu bekommen. Es lief genau wie bei dem Vorbild, welches im Bericht zum Cache "Des Kaisers Hofmathematiker" beschrieben ist: Der Mathematiker erhielt 3 Grenzsteine (Vom Kaiser gesetzte Punkte werden im folgenden mit "F" bezeichnet und durchnumeriert von 1 bis 3) und konnte die Grenzpunkte seines gleichseitigen Grundstücks so legen (vom Mathematiker gesetzte Punkte werden im folgenden mit M1, M2 und M3 bezeichnet), dass es eine maximale Fläche hatte. Der Grundstein F2 (N49 36.124, E11 00.055)(Die erste Stage bei der "Die Stecknadel im Heuhaufen), ist immer noch erhalten und heute in Erlangen durch ein Kunstwerk markiert. Der Grenzstein F3 ist heute durch eine hässliche Strassenlaterne ersetzt und beherbergt "Die Sonne zeigt den Cache". (Der Hint gibt die Koordinate für jemanden, der dieses Rätsel nicht lösen will, oder sich noch versichern möchte). Am Grenzstein F1 hatte der Hofmathematiker seine wertvollen Schätze vergraben und es gilt, diese zu suchen. Leider gibt es keine Aufzeichungen über die Koordinaten. Was jedoch inzwischen zu Tage kam ist einer der Eckpunkte des Grundstückes - wie gesagt dem gleichseitigen Dreieck maximaler Fläche, welches sich der Mathematiker um die Grenzsteine F1, F2 und F3 herumgelegt hatte.
Dieser Eckpunkt M1 des Grundstück ist die Referenzkoordinate dieses Caches und kann somit als Ausgangspunkt der Suche betrachtet werden. (N49 37.725, E10 58.677)
Zu der Lösung ist folgendes zu sagen: Man sollte sich erst mit dem Rätsel des Kaisers Hofmathematikers beschäftigen - so zu sagen zum Warmrechnen. Wenn man die Rechnung erfolgreich durchgeführt hat kann man sich an dieses Rätsel machen. Wenn man analytisch das Rätsel durchrechnet, dann kommt man auf den Meter genau an den Cache heran. Auch graphisch gelingt die Konstruktion recht gut, wenn man die gegebenen Koordinaten auf Millimeterpapier bringt und mit der richtigen Idee und einem Geodreieck konstruiert. Ich kam auf bis zu 20 Meter heran.
Wo ist der eigentliche Cache: Der Cache ist unter einem einem kleinen Steinhaufen untergebracht, bei dem eine kleine rote Kugel (Durchmesser ca 8cm) auf einer Stange als Markierung angebracht ist. Als Hinweis: Bei Nacht wird diese Kugel und das Häuschen nicht gut zu finden sein. Der Cache ist in unserem Garten - also keine Angst, dort hineinzugehen, wenn Ihr dann absolut sicher seid, dass Ihr das kleine Steinhaus mit Kugel gefunden habt. Klingelt mal an der Tür - vielleicht können wir einen Kaffee zusammen trinken. (Nachdem Coldfinger doch bei Nachbarn im Garten stand - angelockt durch eine der inzwischen modern gewordenen Kugeln, noch mal der Hinweis: Unserer Kugel ist nur sehr klein und sieht nicht so "professionell" aus. Der Cache ist in einem Steinhaufen mit Steinen diverser Geocache-touren versteckt).

Try to find a missing boundary stone of the mathematician of ancient Frederic, one of the founders of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.
Story:
At the university of Erlangen there worked a famous Mathematician, who – in honor of his achievements - received a ground by one of the universities founders – Frederic. Frederic presented 3 boundary stones at three sites; Only two of these old stones are known: Stone 2 (F2= N49 36.124, E11 00.055) is the first stage of the “Die Stecknadel im Heuhaufen”-Cache and was recently replaced by an artists monument. Boundary stone 3 (F3) is the Cache-coordinate (not the reference coordinate) of the “Die Sonne zeigt den Cache”-Cache. It is now replaced by an ugly stone street light. The missing boundary stone is, where the treasure of the Mathematician is hidden now. Try to find it! There are 3 other boundary stones that were set by the Mathematician; Only one is known: M1= N49 37.725, E10 58.677 (reference coordinate of this cache).
These 3 boundary stones were placed so as to give the maximum area of the Mathematician’s ground under the condition that Frederics stones are on the 3 border lines of equal length connecting those three stones.
Where is the treasure:
The final cache is marked with a red pin-needle, a miniature of the symbol of the “Die Stecknadel im Heuhaufen”-Cache located in the city of Erlangen. Don’t hesitate to enter the cache-owners ground in order to access the cache-box after you are sure that you located the correct place. You might also ring at the door to be offered a free coffee....
Way of finding the cache:
Mathematical way:
There are 6 ancient boundary stones around Erlangen, which have to be located; I will call the points F1, F2, F3 which are stones that were given by Federic to his Mathematician. The Mathematician himself placed 3 other boundary stones termed M1, M2, M3 on the corners of a triangle with equal-length border lines. As in the case of the puzzle “Des Kaisers Hofmathematiker” by Vinni&Nici (see ). This means that M1, M2 and M3 were chosen so as to give the largest area of the mathematicians ground for the given F1, F2, and F3. However, whereas for the “Des Kaisers Hofmathematiker”-Cache the known boundary stones are the emperors stones, here you only know two of Frederics stones (namely F2 and F3) but also one of the mathematicians stones (namely M1). It is your task to find F1, because the treasures of the mathematicians are hidden at that place.
Preparations:
- Try to solve “Die Stecknadel im Heuhaufen”. It helps you to recognize the mark of the cache and helps to avoid that you step on ground so unknow people.
- Try to solve “Die Sonne zeigt den Cache”. You will get Coordinate F3. If you dont like or dont trust your calculation of that puzzle, get the coordinate of F3 from the hint below.
- Try to solve “Des Kaisers Hofmathematiker” and understand the geometrical problems behind the underlying puzzle. You have to develop a new idea in order to find F1. I solved that problem analytically (with the help of the mathematics program Maple, and reached the real coordinate within 1 meter of precision). I also found a graphical solution on paper and reached a precision of 20 meter.
