Merlot
MUR-loh

The name comes from the French word "merle" for blackbird referring to the dark blue color of the grape.
Merlot is a red wine grape that is from a cross between Cabernet Franc and Magdeleine Noire des Charentes. It is the second most planted red wine grape in the world. The Yakima Valley AVA (where you are currently standing in) has been emerging as a major source of high-quality Merot, While Merlot plays a big role in Bordeaux and Super Tuscan wine blends, in Washington it is also highlighted solo.
Merlot produces a wine that has a deep dark purple with red hues. It has juicy dark fruit flavors (plum, blueberry, raspberry) with earthy undertones and secondary hints of spice. With a smooth and velvety texture mouth feel. The color and taste will vary by region, year and age.
